Japan vs. South Korea?

While on my daily routine of going on Yahoo! Answers and looking at the Japan section, I noticed a question that was kind of like this: "Which country is better? South Korea or Japan? Presumably, this is from a South Korean. What's with all of this "which country is superior" ideology we're seeing nowadays? South Korea and Japan share similarities, such as borrowing heavily from China. However, there are many differences between the two, such as a different culture and language.
My opinion is that unless the two countries being compared are almost identical in culture, language, and other factors, it's pointless to attempt to view the countries in comparison to each other.. It's like comparing Mali and Ethiopia or the United States with China. We must look at the qualities of whatever particular country we are trying to judge and enjoy its distinctive culture, not compare it to unlike places.

I wouldn't expect such a question to come from a Japanese! And I can't explain why koreans have such an "inferiority complex", with all my respect to koreans of course!

It seems that Koreans tend to have some type of "inferiority complex". Most of the ones I know constantly compare themelves with Japan and say, "Korea is better than Japan."

Japan and Korea are uncomparable!

I agree with you, akouwa doffou. I've never been to Korea but I see a lot of similarity between Japan and Korea.
And one thing that many Korean people have to get over is their collective inferior complex.
But do you know Japanese used to have and maybe some of us still have inferior complex toward western countries?
Some people used to say to justify his/her claim that "this is taken for granted in the US.(amerika dewa touzen/atarimae yo). That was supposed to mean since the US did it , we should do
it otherwise we were underdeveloped, barbarian or something like that.

One way to overcome the inferior complex is to see the reality as it is and to accept it as it is.
It might a bit harsh to say this, but IMO, many Koreans
tend to see what they want to see , tend to make up the story they want to be told, to fix the inferior complex instead of looking at the reality.

We can ,and should respect each culture, not compare and mock the other culture.

All I want to say to Korean people who keep comparing themselves with Japanese is mind your own business.

I agree with some parts of what you've said. I don't think that Koreans feel inferior to Japanese. It just that what Japanese had done to Koreans in the past was dirty and some of us or the government don't want to accept that fact.
